Happy Easter Dragon

I thought this was the first time I had drawn a dragon, but I did another one earlier that some of you might recall.  I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.  I remember drawing dinosaurs as a kid, but I was never one to draw fantasy creatures.  I would spend most my drawing days, drawing Nightcrawler or other X-men characters.  
  By far my favorite thing to draw are creatures.  This probably won't be the last dragon you see

Here's the final two pieces.  I added some touch ups after the video, and decided to get rid of the line drawing in one of the pieces.  Which is better, with, or without the line?

Dangers of the Airbrush tool

I've recently been painting in Photoshop exclusively, and I started using the airbrush.  BAD IDEA!  it makes everything look like plastic or something.  So watch out for it.  It's a danger that lurks around every digital piece.  So here is the example to stay away from.   It's just a practice piece so I didn't have the energy to fix it. 

BEASTMASTER

This was an interesting piece to work on.  It reminded me of when I was young and I would draw monsters on the back of church programs.  I would always show my friend Matt, and that became a routine.  Every Sunday there would be a new monster, and we would talk about it.  Maybe we'll talk about this one...

Here's the new concept peace.  The Beast looks okay, but I still need to mess with the girl a bit.

So, I decided to put more effort into concept art.  Possibly the best resource out there is http://www.fengzhudesign.com/.  The tutorials on there are great.  He teaches you some pretty rad stuff, and he teaches how to do it quick.  Here's some wolfy thingy I did in about an hour.

Mario Friday

I was up working on this piece last night while watching the mario movie.  What's great about the movie is, that it's so true to the game.  Because it's obvious that the game is about a different dimension that spawned cold blooded humans that evolved from dinosaurs.

So I was tired of spitting out crap, so here instead of having today be my last day, I'm going to to extend this piece and work on it on Sunday.  So here's a preview for my Sunday post:

DAY 3 of Mario

So I'm trying to limit the amount of time I invest in these paintings to 2 hours, this one went a little over.  I was doing pretty good until I had to ink it.  Can you guess which Mario character this is. . . it's Bowser.  If you couldn't guess that, then you need to play more video games.

Day 2 of Mario

I recently got a Rapidograph set and this is my first painting with them.  Rapidographs are technical pens, where you can fill it up with your own ink.  The first time I tried using them, was a disaster, but this time I almost got the hang of it.  They aren't like typical pens, they have a thin point that goes up and down inside of the metal tip.  ...Anyway...
